Today we observe National Technology Day! Let’s celebrate the life-changing technologies that make our world a better place. I’m listing my top 8 technologies of the cyber world (and the reason I included each one.) in no particular order. Do you have something else on your list?

Wearable blood sugar monitors

For some people with blood sugar instability, these devices can mean the difference between life and death. Caregivers can be alerted on their devices providing them the chance to help address their loved one’s blood sugar.

Video conferencing

The global pandemic made video conference platforms a necessary evil to keep kids learning virtually and many adults working remotely. Prior to the lockdown, video conferencing helped military families stay connected when one or both parents were deployed.

GPS directional systems

As a person who gets lost even in places I’ve been before, this has made an indescribable difference in my life. (No, seriously, just ask my family and friends.) The time saved when EMS, Police, and Fire departments are dispatched has literally made the difference between life and death.

Drones

Aside from being fun toys for a day in the park, drones are being used to deliver food and medical supplies to people in isolated remote locations. They are also used to help find people and animals trapped in difficult to search places.

Tracking chips

These come in a variety of types for many different uses. I’m a dog Mom of three that love to track using their noses. All of my dogs are chipped. (I’m also considering chipping my boyfriend.)

Smartphones

These devices have become essential for many of us to function on a daily basis. My phone gives me real-time directions to my destinations, reminds me that I have an appointment, gives me medical alerts, allows me to video chat with my parents in another state and sister in another country, and re-assures me that my doggies are still in the yard.

Smartwatches

While, yes, they do need a smartphone to fully function, they provide a number of quality of life apps that extend the usefulness of our smartphones.

3-D printers

Fully functional human and animal prosthetics are being generated. This is a huge leap forward in the care and life of people and animals who are missing limbs.

This is not my exhaustive list, but just some of the cyber technology I appreciate on National Technology Day.

What's on your list?
